Reading:
Luke 2:1-5
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.

Devotional
Caesar Augustus issued a decree believing himself to be like the gods, yet he was simply a pawn in the hand of the one true God. God moved a pagan emperor's heart to fulfill a prophecy written centuries before. This is a reminder that God is sovereign over governments, circumstances, and even those who do not know him. When life feels chaotic or beyond your control, remember that God is quietly orchestrating every detail. Nothing surprises him. No leader, no law, and no hardship can derail what he has purposed. Trust the one who moves kings like pieces on a board.
