The Power of Humility Over Pride | June 30th, 2026

Reading:

Isaiah 14:12-15
12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ 15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit.

James 4:6-10
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Devotional:

Lucifer's downfall began with five "I wills"—the pride that declared, "I will be like the Most High." Pastor Mark shared "Satan has an 'I' Problem"

Pride remains Satan's signature sin and his primary weapon against believers. How many ministries, marriages, and friendships have crumbled under the weight of pride? God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Today, examine your heart. Are you promoting yourself or Jesus Christ? Are you seeking recognition or faithful service?

Chuck Swindoll's warning about "self" reminds us that humility isn't weakness—it's strength under God's control.

The way out of pride is to humble ourselves under Gods mighty hand, to depend on God and not on self, and as we do, we will find grace for the moment that pride (both being puffed up or overly deflated) begins to rise up in our hearts!

Challenge: How does pride show up in your life? Is it in Pity? In Propping yourself up? Is It in comparison? All of these have 'I' at the center of it all. Bring that pride to God, submit yourself to God in dependence and repentance and find grace for that moment!
