Citizens of Heaven Living on Earth | June 11th, 2026

Reading:

Philippians 3:17-21
17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Colossians 3:1-4
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is  hidden  with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Devotional:

We are foreigners here, citizens of heaven temporarily residing on earth. This world is not our home. Just as the Philippians took pride in their Roman citizenship while living far from Rome, we should live as heavenly citizens while awaiting our true homeland. This perspective changes everything. When we're gripped by temporary concerns—possessions, status, comfort—we lose our joy and our witness. But when we remember we're waiting for Jesus to return and transform these lowly bodies into glorious ones like His, we live differently. We hold things loosely. We endure suffering with hope. We pursue holiness with urgency.

What earthly thing has been choking out your Christlikeness? Release it today. Set your mind on things above, where Christ is seated, and let that eternal perspective fuel your joy and purity.
