The Dayspring From on High -- Light for Those in Darkness | October 1st, 2026

Reading:

Luke 1:76-79
76 “And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, 77 To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us; 79 To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Isaiah 9:2, 6
2 The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined...6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Devotional

Zacharias, holding his newborn son, prophesied of a coming light -- the Dayspring from on high. That word "dayspring" carries the image of the first breaking light of morning after a long, dark night. It is not a gradual dimming of darkness but an arrival, a visitation. Jesus Christ came not to improve the world's condition slightly but to shatter darkness at its root. He came as the Prince of Peace to those sitting in the shadow of death. If you find yourself in a season of spiritual darkness today, know that the same Dayspring who was promised has already arrived in Jesus!

Reflection Question: What area of your inner life is still living in shadow because you have not yet allowed the light of Christ full access to it?
