Remember That Jesus Is Greater Than Whatever Is Over Your Head | August 19th, 2026

Reading:

Psalm 107:25-30
25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves of the sea. 26 They mount up to the heavens, They go down again to the depths; Their soul melts because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, And are at their wits’ end. 28 Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. 29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. 30 Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven.

Devotional:

The psalmist describes sailors overwhelmed by a storm so fierce they stagger like drunken men, brought to their wits end. Then they cry out to the Lord, and He calms the storm and guides them to their desired haven.

This is the same God who stood in the stern of a boat and commanded wind and waves into silence. Whatever storm surrounds you today, it is not beyond His authority. The waves that feel like they are swallowing you are the same waves He walks on. He is not alarmed by what alarms you. He is not overwhelmed by what overwhelms you. He is greater.

Reflection: In what area of your life do you most need to be reminded that Jesus has authority over what feels uncontrollable? How does His power over creation speak to your current situation?
