The Posture of a Maidservant | September 24th, 2026

38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Mary's response to one of the most staggering announcements in human history was not a demand for more information, a negotiation, or a request for time to consider. She called herself a maidservant -- the lowest of servants -- and said, "Let it be to me according to your word." She presented her body, her womb, her future, and her reputation entirely to God's will. This is the posture God is calling every believer to adopt. We say we want to serve God, but true servanthood is tested not in the moments of public ministry but in the quiet moments when God redirects, reassigns, or calls us to something that costs us something real.

Reflection: Where has God called you to serve and you have responded with hesitation, conditions, or resistance? What would it look like to say, "Let it be to me according to your word"?
