The Unchanging Human Heart | July 13th, 2026
Reading:
Jeremiah 17:9-10
9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.
Romans 1:18-25
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Devotional:
Has anyone ever told you that they would trust in Christ if He just showed up?
Our passage this morning disproves such a claim.. why? For during the millennium—a thousand years of perfect environment, abundance, and Christ's visible reign—multitudes will still rebel when given the chance.
Consider the Garden of Eden: Adam and Eve walked with God in paradise, yet chose rebellion. Today, we don't need perfect conditions to follow Christ—we need surrendered hearts. We have MORE than enough evidence to know who Jesus is and what He has done! Yet it remains a pride issue.. not an evidence one!
Even in perfect conditions, the human heart remains deceitful without God's transforming power. This sobering truth reveals that external circumstances cannot change our inner nature; only the Holy Spirit can create a clean heart within us.
Challenge: Ask God today to search your heart and reveal any areas where you're relying on externals rather than His internal work. True change comes not from our environment but from our relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior.
