The Unchanging Character of God | October 7th, 2026

Reading:

Psalm 103:6-9
    6      The LORD executes righteousness
And justice for all who are oppressed.
7      He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the children of Israel.
8      The LORD is merciful and gracious,
Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
9      He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.

Exodus 34:6-7
6 And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

Hebrews 13:8
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Devotional

When circumstances shift beneath us like sand, we desperately need something that does not move. God's character is that something. David reaches back into Israel's history and finds the same God who revealed himself to Moses — merciful, gracious, slow to anger. That same God meets you today. He has not grown impatient with you. He has not revised his opinion of you based on your worst week. His mercy is not a limited resource that runs dry. The past faithfulness of God is not merely a historical record. It is evidence — concrete and personal — that he will be faithful again. Past grace is always evidence of future grace.

Reflection Question: Where in your life have you allowed your present circumstances to make you forget the past faithfulness of God?
