What does it mean to truly be ready? Not just ready in a general sense, but spiritually alert, armor on, eyes open, watching for the return of our Lord? Drawing from Matthew 24 and 25, we are reminded that Jesus himself gave his disciples a detailed picture of what the end times would look like, and then followed it with a direct command: watch. The reason is simple and sobering. No one knows the day or the hour. Not the angels. Not even the Son. Only the Father. And because of that, we are called to live every single day as if it could be the last. The parable of the wise and foolish virgins drives this home with striking clarity. Five had oil in their lamps. Five did not. The difference was not talent or status, it was preparation. It was intentionality. It was the daily discipline of staying filled and staying ready. We are challenged to ask ourselves honestly whether we are living with that kind of readiness, or whether we are among those who assume there is still time to get serious later.
