Misunderstanding The Prince of Peace | John 12: 12-19

Mar 29, 2026    Pastor Seth Ramirez

This powerful exploration of Palm Sunday takes us into the heart of one of the most misunderstood moments in Jesus' ministry. As we journey through John 12, we discover that the crowds who welcomed Jesus with palm branches and shouts of Hosanna were actually expecting something entirely different than what Jesus came to offer. They waved political symbols hoping for a military deliverer to free them from Rome, but Jesus rode in on a humble donkey as the Prince of Peace. The symbolism is striking: while they sought temporary political freedom, Jesus came to free them from something far worse than Roman captivity - the slavery of sin. This message challenges us to examine our own expectations of Jesus. Do we come to Him only for what He can do for us, or do we truly seek Him for who He is? The disciples themselves didn't understand until after the resurrection, the crowds wanted a genie instead of a Lord, and the Pharisees feared losing their position and power. But the most heart-wrenching response was Jesus weeping over Jerusalem because His own people missed Him entirely. As we reflect on this holy week, we're invited to surrender our own agendas and misunderstandings, to wave not palm branches of expectation but white flags of surrender, and to truly welcome Jesus as our King and Savior.
